Alcohol Management Policy

This policy is for the responsible sale and use of alcohol by SOUTH BELGRAVE CRICKET CLUB and is fundamental to the aims of the club.

The club holds a current liquor licence, enabling it to generate income and hold social functions. We accept the responsibilities in adhering to liquor licensing laws and the criteria of the Good Sports programme.

Alcohol will be managed responsibly by the club and its members.  The Club’s requirements will apply when alcohol is served:

 

Serving Alcohol

Alcohol will be served according to the club’s Liquor Licence. 

* Only RSA trained servers will serve alcohol

* People under 18 will not serve alcohol

* The club does not encourage excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol

* Information posters about Standard Drink measures will be displayed at the bar

* The Liquor Licence will be displayed at the bar 

* Names of RSA trained bar staff will be kept at the Bar

* An incident register will be maintained and any incident recorded.

 

Intoxicated Patrons

* Drunk patrons will not be permitted to enter the social rooms

* Alcohol will not be served to any person who is intoxicated or drunk

* RSA training procedures will be followed when refusing service

* Drunk patrons will be asked to leave the rooms (after appropriate safe transport options are offered).

Underage Drinking

* Alcohol will not be served to persons aged under 18

* Proof of age will be required whenever in doubt

* Only photo ID’s will be accepted as ‘proof of age’.

Alcohol Alternatives

The Club recognises that alcohol is not the only revenue stream available and actively encourages the sales of alternative products to that of alcohol.   

* Tap water is provided free of charge (where available)

* Bottled water will be sold

* At least four non-alcoholic drinks and one low-alcoholic drink options are always available at cheaper prices. 

* Food is available when the bar is open.

Safe Transport

The Club has a Safe Transport Policy. 

Smoke-Free

The Club has a Smoke-Free Policy. 

Non Compliance

All club committee members will enforce the alcohol management policy. 

Committee Policy Management

Committee members will ensure the operation of the bar and compliance with this policy. 

* Compliance in respect of persons under 18 years of age on premises

* Intoxicated persons being prevented from purchasing alcohol

* Recording any incidents in the incident register

Policy Promotion

The Club will include a copy of the policy in club rooms as well as the website.

The Club acknowledges the importance of educating club members, particularly players, about the benefits of an alcohol management policy.

The Club will actively participate in the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program with an ongoing priority to maintain Level 3 accreditation.

This policy will be reviewed from time to time. 

 

Good Sports - Level 3

We are a Good Sports Level 3 accredited club. 

Sporting clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and have a responsibility to our members and their families. We have chosen to join over 6,500 clubs across Australia taking part in the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program. Through Good Sports we are committed to managing alcohol responsibly, ensuring smoke free areas and providing healthier food options, which we believe will help us to provide a healthy, safe and family friendly environment.

 

Through Good Sports we aim to:

* Eliminate risky drinking in the club through the promotion of a responsible approach to the sale and consumption of alcohol in the club

* Encourage healthy food choices before, during and after sport

* Protect juniors and other young people from the misuse of alcohol in and around the club

* Provide a responsible smoke-free club environment, through designated smoking areas

* Ensuring healthy meal, snack or drinks options available and promoted

* Limiting the supply and promotion of less healthy food options

At Level 3, we are committed to:

* Not selling or consuming alcohol without an appropriate liquor license

* Training our bar staff in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

* Ensuring smoke free areas are available 

* Organising safe and responsible social events

* Thinking ahead and ensuring players and members get home safely after functions 

* Formalising and implementing our club’s alcohol management and food supply policy

* Safe food handling practices

* Providing and promoting a range of healthy food choices

* Fundraisers and sponsorship that don’t include unhealthy food promotion

Smoke Free Policy

Passive smoking is a health hazard and those non-smoking club members and visitors have the right to be protected from exposure to tobacco smoke.

The Club’s policy applies to all club facilities, functions, meetings and activities undertaken and will apply to all members, officials, players and club visitors.

Facilities

All club facilities are to be completely smoke free and shall include:

* The social rooms, bar, kitchen, toilets and storage area

* Player change rooms toilets and showers

* Within 10m of the buildings

Cigarettes will not be sold (including vending machines) at any time at or by the club

Players, Officials & Coaches

Coaches, players, volunteers and officials will refrain from smoking while involved in official junior and senior activities for the club, on and off the field.

Functions

All club functions including social and fund raising events and meetings are to be completely smoke free:

Non-compliance

All club committee members will enforce the smoke free policy. 

Policy Promotion

The club will promote the smoke free policy regularly by:

* Displaying a copy of the policy in the club social rooms

* Displaying no smoking signs in appropriate areas

The club will actively participate in the Australian Drug Foundation Good Sports programme with an ongoing priority to maintain Good Sports accreditation.

The policy will be reviewed from time to time.

 

Safe Transport Policy

As part of the Club’s duty of care we have established this Safe Transport policy as a way for members to get home safely and eliminate any risk of drink driving.    

* The following requirements will apply when alcohol is served, either at the club or during a club function.

* Bar staff shall encourage members and visitors to make alternate safe transport

arrangements if they are considered to exceed .05 blood alcohol concentration (or .00 if probationary driver)

* If you plan on having alcohol arrange for your keys to be handed to the bar staff and registered.

* Arrange with someone who is not drinking to be the designated drive to take you home.

* Telephone calls will be made free of charge to arrange a taxi or other transport

* The Committee will pre-order taxis to arrive at the venue at the conclusion of the function upon request
